About Create Escapes

At Create Escapes, we believe great outdoor spaces begin with the right materials, thoughtful details, and people who truly care about the end result. From mulch, stone, gravel, loam, pavers, granite, and fire pits to rustic outdoor furniture, birdhouses, and garden accents, we help homeowners, contractors, and do-it-yourselfers create outdoor spaces that feel useful, welcoming, and built to last. Based in Meredith, New Hampshire, we are proud to serve the Lakes Region with personal service, practical guidance, and products that bring beauty and function together.

A Family Business Rooted in the Lakes Region

Create Escapes is a family-run business built by John and Liza Paonessa. John has deep roots in the Winnipesaukee area that go back more than 30 years. After raising a family in the Boston area, John and Liza made their way north thinking about plans for retirement. That retirement did not last long.

John spent his career in drilling, blasting, and site work, and it did not take much time for him to realize he was not ready to stop building, working, and solving problems. Liza brought a different but equally important background in catering and hospitality, with a strong sense for what makes a space feel warm, inviting, and memorable. Together, they built Create Escapes around hard work, local knowledge, and a real appreciation for outdoor living in New Hampshire.

More Than a Landscape Supply Yard

Create Escapes offers the materials people need to get outdoor projects moving. That includes mulch, loam, soil, sand, gravel, aggregate, pavers, wall block, granite, firewood, fire pits, and other hardscape and landscape supplies. We proudly serve homeowners, builders, and landscapers in Meredith, Laconia, Gilford, and surrounding Lakes Region communities who want a dependable local source for quality materials and delivery.

At the same time, we believe outdoor spaces are about more than the base work. A patio should feel like a place to gather. A garden should feel finished. A backyard should feel like an extension of the home. That is why we also carry outdoor décor, birdbaths, wind chimes, garden accents, and other pieces that help bring character and warmth to a property.

Handcrafted Pieces with New Hampshire Character

One of the things that makes Create Escapes different is the handcrafted work you will find here. During the colder months, when landscape work slows down, John spends time building rustic outdoor furniture with natural character and sturdy construction. Wanting something more distinctive than the mass-produced pieces he saw elsewhere, he began creating benches, tables, chairs, stools, and lamps that feel right at home in the Lakes Region.

That same hands-on spirit carries into our decorative birdhouses, many of which are made on site in a range of sizes and styles. These pieces reflect what we value as a business. Quality matters. Character matters. And the products people bring into their outdoor spaces should feel like they belong there.

Inside the store, you will also find The Nest, Liza’s collection of home goods, gifts, and décor. It adds another layer to the Create Escapes experience and gives customers the chance to find something special for both inside and outside the home.

Helping Homeowners, Contractors, and DIY Customers

Not every customer comes in with a finished plan, and that is fine with us. Some people know exactly how much mulch, gravel, or stone they need. Others are comparing materials for a patio, planning a fire pit area, refreshing garden beds, or trying to choose products that will hold up well over time. We work with both.

We are proud to help homeowners who are tackling projects themselves, contractors who need dependable materials and service, and property owners who want trusted advice before making decisions. If delivery will make the job easier, we can help with that too. Our goal is simple. We want to make the process easier and help people feel more confident about their outdoor projects.
