Create Escapes is the realization of a life-long dream for owners John and Liza Paonessa. John has deep roots in the Winnipesaukee area going back more than 30 years. After raising a family in the Boston area, John and Liza headed north to “retire”—a notion that lasted all of an entire year. John, who spent his career as a drilling and blasting and site work contractor, quickly found that the idle life didn’t agree with his disposition. Liza, whose own career was in catering and hospitality, also found herself wanting to find fun new ways to contribute to the local community.
Liza also jumped into the mix, seizing the opportunity to incorporate her passion for outdoor décor and creating inspired, relaxing spaces to entertain friends and family. Her careful eye informs the design of the rustic outdoor furniture and birdhouses that John produces through the cold winter months when landscaping slows down. She can be found chatting with customers at the register or in The Nest, her own special niche inside that showcases hand-selected home goods and small gifts.
